"Kokoro," or the "heart," is an elusive concept for those wishing to distinguish between the seats of intellect and rationality in Japanese culture. Indeed, the role of the heart, besides its obvious physical function as the body's blood pump, has been of interest to philosophers and metaphysicians of all cultural backgrounds since ancient times.

The imagery of the heart provides the focus of the latest installation by Dutch dancer Monique van Kerkhof, who will be using the theme to explore the possibilities of combining movement with sculpture and computer graphics this week at Atelier

Edwin R. Molenaar in Yokohama.
